A Pulse In A Rented Room (Streetlights)

by Bryan Lovett

/

lyrics

streetlights
endlessly arranged
meant to reveal
but not explain

darkness
exiled to alleyways
outside the city
stretch out the miles

steady flicker of a dying bulb
ghostly embers when the fire's gone
lonely thoughts on red eye flights
gaze across a million lives
under streetlights

concrete
confines keep us aligned
static at daybreak
siren, a mayday

long nights
make up the shortest years
stay through the solstice
time loses focus

pearly glowing of the gibbous moon
tv pulsing in a rented room
winding threads of interstates
motions made to demonstrate
just how long
we've stood in place

Because the amount of leaves in the canopy make it difficult to see more than a few feet, canopy animals rely on loud calls or lyrical songs for communication.
